When I interviewed Richard D. James over milkshakes in Manhattan in 1996, he had just ditched his production equipment and started writing his own software that generated random sounds according to his assigned rules. Decades later, he released the free and open source app Samplebrain in October 2022. I ran samples of the interview through Samplebrain to generate random sounds which I then manipulated on my turntables with the help of Serato DJ Pro software. Thank you to Aphex Twin for inspiring me to experiment with music in this way.
